Think Before you Speak
Think Before you Speak By Bill Benson
A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools, blurts out folly. Proverbs 12:23
It’s the obvious that cry’s out to be declared or so it may seem. In my moments of brilliance I am so often sure that my views, my thoughts are exceptional and I must share them with everyone even if they don’t want to hear what I think.
Sometimes it is better to stop and think before I open my mouth and blurt out what I am thinking.
The word folly is an interesting one. I like to learn where words come from, origins can give you a lot if insight. Follies’ in the Latin means windbag. Definitions include a lack of understanding, an unwise investment, a foolish act, absurdity, a lack of good sense, understanding, of foresight, a perilous act, and evil.
Often I think God wants us to seek Him out before we open our mouth. Think before you speak. Perhaps you need to be sensitive to the person you are speaking to. What are their needs, how can you pour your life into theirs. How can you be Jesus with skin on to them?
Have you ever wished you could take back the words you have spoken? I sure have. If I had only not said thus and such perhaps I would not have damaged a relationship.
By slowing down and waiting before you speak it gives you a chance to pray. Lord how can I minister in this situation? How Lord would you have me speak? How can I be your representative here Lord?
One of my desires in life is to be Christ’s ambassador here on earth. More of Jesus, less of me, at least that’s what I want to strive for. When I take a moment before I speak perhaps my words will reflect more of Christ and less of me.
